"Skulpturenlandschaft Osnabrück"

The society for new art, "TOP.OS Verein für neue Kunst e.V." Osnabrück, has, with this project, set itself the goal of extending the Osnabrück sculpture landscape "Skulpturenpark Finkenhügel", initiated in 2003 in West Osnabrück, around a modified concept.

Starting in the grounds of Osnabrück Clinic, where ten, mainly large sculptures from five different artists have been erected, the plan is to extend the "Skulpturenlandschaft Osnabrück" to Rubbenbruchsee, Heger-Holz and across Edinghäuser Weg to Westerberg in a continuous pathwork of art.

To achieve this, we will invite some 15 celebrated and lesser known national and regional artists, and artists from Europe, to install around 20 works of art from contemporary genres, relating to the area, in early 2007. The official opening is scheduled for May 2007. The plan is to expand the "Skulpturenlandschaft Osnabrück" on a regular basis.

the "Skulpturenlandschaft Osnabrück" provides a continuously changing and organic artistic landscape in dialogue with the surrounding natural environment.

One fundamental idea that lies at the heart of this project is that it is site-specific.

Signs that migrate across boundaries will be set through the creative power of the artists.

An encounter with contemporary art will become possible far afield from the day-to-day stress and pressures of commercial art.

"Human:Art" will take place elsewhere than in the confines of established art centres (galleries and museums). The observer will encounter places well-known to him that have been transformed, and, in doing so, will himself become a discoverer of the art in nature.

Different than in the city centre, the observer will have the requisite peace and quiet for encountering art in a totally new manner.

We hope that this immersion in new forms of art (object art, installations, performance, land art, arte povera, etc.) will lead to an encounter quasi en passent with the otherliness of this form, and that the fear of the unknown and incomprehensible will be assuaged.

In order to promote the project, accompanying events will take place, where the artists participating will present their works for discussion, and lectures will given by artists or artistic scientists.

The project "Skulpturenlandschaft Osnabrück" represents an enrichment of the cultural landscape for the city and the whole region of Osnabrück, and one which is sure to attract national attention
